Packers sign punter while JK Scott awaits word on wife's pregnancy

BOSTON - As of this afternoon, rookie punter JK Scott will take part in the Green Bay Packers' Sunday night showdown against the New England Patriots, but that could change.

A source said Scott's wife is close to giving birth and the punter intends on being there, which explains why the Packers signed former Los Angeles Chargers punter Drew Kaser Saturday and brought him with them for their Sunday night game against the Patriots.

Both punters were present Sunday but there would seem almost no way in which both would be active given how valued the 46 spots on the game-day roster are.

So, as long as Scott is available he will be the punter.

Also Saturday, the Packers downgraded wide receiver Geronimo Allison (groin, hamstring) to out for Sunday's game and added cornerback Tony Brown (hip) to the injury report as questionable.

Kaser was released from the Chargers on Oct. 2 after posting mediocre numbers. On 13 punts, he averaged 48.4 yards gross and 35.4 net. One of Kaser’s punts was returned for a touchdown.

Like Scott, Kaser can hold for field goals and extra points.

Scott had one bad punt that hurt the team last week against the Los Angeles Rams, but he by no means has been bad enough to lose his job. He’s averaging 45.4 yards gross and 39.8 net.

The Packers must submit their 46-man roster 90 minutes before kickoff Sunday. It should be clear then which punter will be in uniform.
